The Friendly Gardener – How to garden with a clear conscience

Alan Titchmarsh describes himself as friendly gardener, and that friendship extends to all forms of wildlife - birds, bees and butterflies, wild flowers and what many other people would regard as weeds.

Using organic methods of gardening for over 25 years, Alan’s garden caters for all these different inhabitants as well as providing a sanctuary for the owner. In this talk, Alan shares some of the secrets to having a wonderful garden without impacting negatively on the wider environment, so helping to keep your gardening conscience clear.

Dine and Explore

Following your talk with Alan Titchmarsh you’ll be led by one of HRH The Prince of Wales’s expert guides on a 75 minute garden tour, where you’ll learn about the history of the estate while taking in the key highlights of the gardens, including breathtaking displays of Spring bulbs.

After your tour, you’ll enjoy a glass of Highgrove Champagne and be seated in the beautiful setting of the Orchard Restaurant for afternoon tea freshly prepared by Highgrove’s resident chefs.

Head Gardener, Debs Goodenough, will join guests to talk about her role at the gardens, including the development of the estate over the last 39 years, and what to expect on your tour.

About Alan Titchmarsh

As one of the nation’s favourite gardeners, Alan Titchmarsh, MBE, is probably best known for his television career. Most famously he presented BBC2’s Gardeners’ World for seven years from his own garden, Barleywood in Hampshire, as well as presenting annual coverage of RHS Chelsea Flower Show on the BBC for an incredible 30-year span.

As a young boy Alan would grow plants and vegetables in his parents back garden; an obsession which would see him train at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and win a Gold Medal at RHS Chelsea Flow Show in 1985 for his garden, A Country Kitchen Garden.

Now, as a gardening expert, Alan regularly writes for BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine and Country Life, as well as being the gardening correspondent for the Daily Express and Sunday Express. He also presents ‘Love Your Garden’ on ITV.
