The Prince’s Foundation has taken on the stewardship of Highgrove Gardens, which will include the delivery of education courses on the estate.

Highgrove Gardens

Designed by the Prince of Wales, the 30 acres of interlinked themed gardens have been created with imagination and passion over some 40 years to include: a Cottage Garden, extensive wildflower meadows, Arboretum and Woodland Garden, Kitchen Garden, orchards, large-scale topiary feature gardens, large Stumpery Garden, seasonal bedding borders, tree avenues, extensive tree and shrub borders with mixed herbaceous perennials.  

What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will undertake and assist with seasonal maintenance tasks throughout the Gardens, upholding the principles behind the organisation of the Gardens and presentation standards at all times.

The successful candidate will operate within this private garden and take pride in delivering a high standard of workmanship. They will be keen to apply principles of organic gardening and demonstrate flexibility, reliability and enjoyment of working as part of a team. Candidates must have a high level of practical horticultural experience and qualifications. Good plant knowledge is desirable but not essential, as the successful candidate will work alongside professional gardeners.

Main areas of responsibility

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Maintenance of extensive herbaceous plantings to include dead-heading, staking, tying-in, division, feeding and watering
  • Maintenance of paths, ornamental hedges and design features
  • Weeding and mulching of mixed ornamental borders
  • Planting of borders
  • Maintenance and watering of seasonal flowering containers
  • Cultivation and harvesting of fruit and vegetables

Hours of work

The position is full-time – Normally 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday plus unpaid lunch break. This is a temporary seasonal position lasting for 5 months (May -September).
