What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Restaurant Manager you will assist in the day to day operation of the Orchard Tea Room. You will offer direction and guidance to the waiting staff on how to effectively carry out their duties of providing refreshments to visitors to the Orchard Room. You will support the team to make sure that all customers receive a positive dining experience and leave Highgrove having had their expectations exceeded. You will ensure that the restaurant operates efficiently and profitably, while maintaining our reputation and ethos. You will support and deputise for the Restaurant Manager and be responsible for the performance of the restaurant, the management of the waiting staff as well as maintaining high standards of food, service and health and safety.
Main areas of responsibility
- Assisting the Restaurant Manager in the day to day running of the Orchard Tea Room
- Assisting in the training and development of the staff, providing feedback to staff and the Restaurant Manager
- Assign roles for the waiting team during service based on their strengths
- Preparing cash drawers and cashing up/banking
- Carry out regular stock takes and identify when stock levels of anything from drinks to napkins are low
- Provide strong communication between the kitchen and FOH team - often involving stock levels, specials and dietary information of specials
- Update till buttons with any changes to prices, specials and stock levels
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the ingredients of menu options to help support any staff unsure when faced with a customer with allergies or intolerances

- Hands on experience within a hospitality/restaurant background
Hours of work
- Hours are variable and can be up to 40 hours per week, worked over a 7-day period, to include weekends, bank holidays, and some evenings.
- Full season runs from March to mid-October.
