Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has performed her duties as Sovereign with the utmost professionalism. Her demeanour has been flawless, and in the seventy years she has reigned, she has embodied all of the characteristics of an iconic sovereign adored by her people.
As Heir Presumptive, Princess Elizabeth received specialised training in law and constitutional history in preparation for her future role as Sovereign.
Elizabeth was only twenty-five years old when she succeeded her father, King George VI, on February 6, 1952. Her life changed irrevocably after only five years of marriage and two young children. The responsibilities of the monarchy have taken precedence over all else, and public duties have invariably demanded the Queen's time and energy first.
This book commemorates The Queen's highlights and challenges over the last seven decades:
- It tells the story of Princess Elizabeth's childhood and the war years.
- There are accounts of her accession and coronation when she was still a young woman.
- Describes each decade of Queen Elizabeth II's reign, focusing on both her professional and personal life.
- Describes a typical working day for the sovereign in detail.
- A special emphasis on Her Majesty's enduring contribution to life in the UK and the Commonwealth, as well as her enviable global reputation.
