About Jekka McVicar
Jekka McVicar has worked with herbs since 1985 for which she is internationally recognised; being awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour in Horticulture - VMH, by the Royal Horticultural Society and the Gardeners Media Guild's Life Time Achievement Award. Keen to share the knowledge and her passion for herbs she has been awarded 62 RHS Gold Medals, appears frequently on national radio and advises governments, chefs and members of the public on the use of herbs; most recently at her Herbetum on her Herb Farm in Bristol. This year, in March, her latest book ‘A Pocketful of Herbs’ was published by Bloomsbury. In June, Jekka, grew, planted and designed a Herb Border at The Goring to compliment their new restaurant.
Food is the reason Jekka is a herb farmer, she has, over the past 30 years, by natural selection, raised 12 new herbs, these have been selected for both their flavour and their behaviour in the garden. They are now being used in kitchens and herb gardens throughout the UK, the most popular being Thymus ‘Jekka’ which has not only beautiful flowers in May but also abundant foliage in the winter months that is full of flavour.
