Highgrove Daphne Eau De Parfum

Highgrove Daphne: A Fragrant Folklore

Table of Contents

Highgrove Gardens and The King’s Foundation are excited to announce our second collaboration with the British perfume house Penhaligon’s. We present the Highgrove Daphne Eau De Parfum, a fragrance that pays tribute to the vibrant woodland florals, especially the daphne flower found in the Stumpery at Highgrove Gardens, which blooms on the brink of spring.

This follows the successful collaboration with Penhaligon’s in 2022 when we launched the Highgrove Bouquet. This fragrance of this Eau de Parfum draws inspiration from the sweet, heady summers at Highgrove Gardens and pays tribute to the uplifting floral notes found in the branches of the weeping silver lime tree. It was inspired by and created in partnership with His Majesty King Charles III.

Highgrove Daphne: found in the Stumpery at Highgrove

The daphne shrub is located in the Stumpery at Highgrove Gardens, a garden inspired by the Victorian tradition of growing ferns in the cracks and crevices of mossy, upturned tree stumps. It blooms at the cusp of spring, a time marked by changing seasons. A crisp, citrus-sweet fragrance is released when the flowers open in rosy splendour.

Daphne embodies the essence of early spring, evoking images of dewy mornings, pastel colours, fresh weather, and sweet apples. It enhances the fresh characteristics of a scent, creating an aura of gentle elegance.

A tribute to the beautiful woodland florals

Daphne Bouquet is a limited-edition Eau de Parfum that features a vibrant blend of blackcurrant leaf and grapefruit, grounded by a moss base and vetiver. Thyme beautifully enhances the daphne flower, which is delicately poised between spring and summer, adorned with a garland of rose and lavender.

Daphne Bouquet opens with vibrant notes of blackcurrant leaves extracted from the leaf buds rather than the leaves themselves. This creates a complex essence that is green, slightly tart, and has fresh herb nuances with a delicate sweetness. The scent features an invigorating burst of brightness and a juicy green undertone that lingers on the skin, grounding the evolving composition.

The daphne flower then enhances the fresh facets of this scent, creating a sense of gentle elegance.

Moss has been a classic ingredient in perfumery since the 16th century, adding an earthy richness that evokes wild forests like the Stumpery at Highgrove Gardens. Often used as a base note, it anchors lighter floral and citrus elements, enhancing the vibrant green character of fragrances like Daphne Bouquet and making them feel grounded and elevated.

A fragrance that is as uplifting as it is sun-filled and radiant

The odour of blossoming Tilia 'Petiolaris' (weeping silver lime) fills the air during the summer months, and the gardens at Highgrove are full of its branches, with their blooming, uplifting, floral notes.

With vibrant lavender and geranium, the uplifting fragrance begins with a crisp, confident burst of warm energy. As floral, powdery notes emerge, a shroud of delicate yellow blossoms appears to fill the air, and tuberose brings longevity and depth to the mimosa, a solar storm of delight. The relaxing, soothing base combines elegance and sophistication with cedar wood and orris.

Highgrove Bouquet: Capturing the scent of the weeping silver lime

On both sides of the front drive, leading up to the house at Highgrove Gardens, sits a row of Tilia ‘Petiolaris’ (weeping silver lime) trees, planted approximately 10 metres apart. They are known to have clusters of highly scented, striking yellowish flowers that are narcotic for bees.

It was here that the scent was first captured for the elegant Highgrove Bouquet Eau De Parfum. It included conducting analysis and gathering information about the beautifully fragrant flowers and sampling the air around the flower by capturing the aroma chemicals.

The sale of highgrove products, garden tours and events support the charitable work of the kings foundation.
