COTTAGE GARDEN

A glorious scheme inspired by the colours of Tibet

Entered through the Shand Gate, the Cottage Garden is divided into old and new and comprises two distinct planting styles.

Cottage Garden

The Old Cottage Garden is traditionally English in style and has a planting scheme designed by His Majesty King Charles III and the late Rosemary Verey. A mixture of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and bulbs provides year-round colour. The oak summer house, designed by His Majesty and Mark Hoare, and built by the Estate team, offers structural interest and charm. A stone seat of Derbyshire gritstone, made by masons from Hereford Cathedral, circles a topiarised English yew and was designed by Julian and Isabel Bannerman.

The New Cottage Garden is planted with a mixture of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, and has an exuberant yellow, pink, and blue theme. The trees include a black mulberry as well as variegated tulip trees.
