Learn the art of block printing

Learn how to create your own beautiful block-printed drum lampshade in the design and colour palette of your choice with Marea from Art of Jaipur and Jennie from Jolly Super Things.

During the morning session, you will learn the ancient art of Indian block printing and create your own bespoke block-printed fabric. You will be able to choose from a range of blocks and fabric paints to achieve a design that is completely unique to you.

After a demonstration by Marea, you can select your blocks and colours and experiment on practice material before bringing your ideas to life and printing the fabric for your lampshade.

Create a unique lampshade

After lunch, use your printed fabric to construct your own lampshade. Marea and Jennie will lead you step by step through each stage of the process, starting with correctly positioning your printed fabric on the laminate backing, then hand-rolling your lampshade, and finally finishing off your unique piece. Your finished lampshade will be 30 cm in diameter and can be used for either a table lamp or as a shade for a pendant ceiling light.

A creative day with a delicious lunch

After an immersive morning of creativity, tuck into a delightful two-course lunch. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and the echoes of your artistic endeavours, savour a meal that complements the day's experiences.

About Marea

Originally hailing from Yorkshire, Marea has found her happy haven in West Oxfordshire. Embracing a newfound chapter of life as an empty nester, she seized the opportunity to channel her creativity into a venture close to her heart. Thus, Art of Jaipur, a small business, was born.

Passion fuels Marea's journey as she delves into crafting, dedicating herself to fashioning exquisite pieces for both home and garden. Expanding beyond her creativity, Marea now orchestrates workshops in picturesque rural locales across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and West Berkshire. The workshops, focusing on Candle Making and Indian Block Printing, embody Marea's commitment to sharing her passion with others.

For Marea, this venture isn't just a business; it's a perfect confluence of passion and purpose. Revelling in the joy of meeting new people, she finds fulfilment in imparting her knowledge and experiences. At the heart of her enterprise is the camaraderie she shares with her friend Helen, a talented artist known for her sage advice on design and colour.

Engaged in the workshops alongside Helen, Marea witnesses the blossoming of creativity among participants. Grateful for the positive feedback that echoes the friendly and informal atmosphere she cultivates, Marea reflects, "It's gratifying to see everyone being creative and making beautiful things of their own to take home." In Art of Jaipur, Marea has not just created a business; she has cultivated a community bound by a shared love for crafting and the pursuit of beauty.
