WITH KATERINA KNIGHT

Saturday 10th October 2026

£170.00

Spend a relaxed, creative day at Highgrove, exploring the art of embroidery inspired by the beauty of the gardens and the surrounding landscape. Led by textile artist Katerina Knight, this one-day workshop offers a thoughtful introduction to stitching with real botanical materials.

Perfect for those with an interest in gardening, textiles, or simply trying something new, the workshop encourages a slower pace, allowing you to focus on the detail and rhythm of hand stitching. Working with dried flowers and foliage, you will create delicate designs that reflect nature's beauty.

Your day also includes a seasonal two-course lunch served in Highgrove’s private dining room, the Garden Room.

Please note, this is a one-day workshop.

Learn the art of stitching with nature

Discover how natural materials can become part of your embroidery practice in this carefully guided workshop. Katerina will begin by introducing her work, sharing examples and offering practical advice on the types of flowers best suited to stitching, including those you may wish to grow yourself.

You will work with a selection of dried botanicals, such as lavender, dahlias, cornflowers, statice, and marigolds, learning to handle and stitch with these more unusual materials.

As the session progresses, you will create your own embroidery sampler, practising traditional techniques such as double darning, couching, cross-stitch and herringbone. You will then move on to more detailed interlacing methods, allowing you to build layered, textured patterns across your fabric.

A creative day with a delicious lunch

Midway through the day, take a break to enjoy a thoughtfully prepared two-course lunch in the Garden Room's calm surroundings. It’s a chance to pause, reflect on your work so far, and enjoy the setting before returning to your stitching in the afternoon.

About Katerina

Katerina Knight is an English textile artist, writer and educator whose one-of-a-kind handmade works explore personal and planetary healing through horticulture and slow textile practices. Working without chemicals or machinery, she combines homegrown dried flora with embroidery techniques to reimagine traditional embellishment.

Katerina studied Printed Textile Design at the Glasgow School of Art before completing an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art as a Burberry Design Scholar. After leaving the luxury fashion industry, she developed a slower artistic practice, exhibiting across Europe, including at Enso House in London, XTANT in Mallorca and Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.

She lectures on the BA (Hons) Textiles programme at Hereford College of Arts and leads her popular “Stitching with Nature” workshops, sharing how craft and connecting with nature can support wellbeing.

Based in Malvern, Worcestershire, Katerina grows plants in the community garden of her local Buddhist temple and enjoys mindful foraging in the surrounding countryside. She is also Features Editor at Selvedge magazine and writes for publications including Resurgence & Ecologist and Surface Design Journal.

Her first book, Stitching with Nature, will be published by Batsford Books in October 2026.
