Distinctive, striped fuchsia and white petals create a bold yet natural look reminiscent of old Gallica roses. Its semi-double blooms appear in profusion, attracting pollinators to its central, vibrant yellow stamens. The light-medium Musk fragrance whispers hints of fresh red apple and rosewater. A versatile and robust shrub with a vase-shaped growth habit and heart-shaped leaves.

Behind the name The King's Rose™

'The King's Rose' has been named after His Majesty King Charles III, a passionate gardener himself, who has transformed the gardens at Highgrove, renowned for their commitment to organic and sustainable gardening practices.

The rose comes complete with the royal stamp of approval from His Majesty King Charles III, who was closely involved in creating the variety and has personally nurtured the plant for the past three years in his private gardens at Highgrove.

In collaboration with the King's Foundation, this rose will help continue its work supporting the next generation of horticulturists.

Breeding a rose fit for a King

'The King's Rose' is the newest English Rose to join the David Austin Roses family, having undergone an exceptionally thorough 12-year breeding process at its nursery in Shropshire. Each year, over 40,000 seedlings are carefully nurtured, evaluated, and gradually shortlisted until there is just one final rose that meets the highest standards
of beauty, fragrance, and resilience.

This rose was bred to combine the distinctive striped characteristics of historic varieties like Rosa Mundi and Ferdinand Pichard with the improved health and reliability of modern roses. While older striped roses have a certain charm, they can sometimes lack disease resistance or consistent repeat flowering. After ten years of careful breeding, this variety retains the appeal of traditional roses while offering stronger performance in today's gardens. It reflects a sense of nowstalgia—bringing the best of the past into the present without compromising on quality or resilience.
