Highgrove Traditional Crafts is a collection of training programmes in heritage and craft skills delivered by The Prince’s Foundation on the Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire. It is based in the estate’s Barley Court, a newly-restored 17th-Century Cotswolds farmhouse that contains textile studios, and Street Farm, a series of bespoke workshops that cater for furniture-making as well as stonemasonry and related crafts.
The focus of the training programmes is to support industry through skills provision and to offer workshops for beginners, through to advanced learners and community-focused activities.
If you have any general enquiries, please email us at highgrove@princes-foundation.org.
You can also keep up-to-date with the workshops and programmes by following Highgrove Traditional Crafts on Instagram @highgrovecraft.
The Barley Court public programme of workshops delivers an engaging and dynamic programme of courses to members of the public. These workshops range from just a few hours to five-day courses and are accessible for beginner to intermediate-level learners. Our courses and classes focus on projects that introduce skills and techniques as well as highlighting traditional crafts such as millinery, weaving and lacemaking.
A combination of practical workshops, thoughtful conversation and a series of making and sharing workshop-style events aims to enable practitioners to work collaboratively and inspire each other on their creative journeys. The Barley Court studios will cater for new and existing makers who wish to share experiences and develop their creative practice.
Create Programme: Rethinking Wood for Furniture
The Snowdon School of Furniture’s 12-week Create programme aims to educate and train furniture students of all ages in the value of wood as a sustainable and beautiful material for the production of design-led furniture. This design and making programme, for a small cohort of eight students, will establish an understanding of the process from woodland management to design and production.
These short half day workshops are perfect for those visiting the gardens for a tour. Extend your day by participating in a range of workshops such as natural dying, weaving or drawing.
